When I started our home school preschool last fall I tried to do several themes for the months intermixed. It became overwhelming and I started to not be able to keep up with my own plans. While searching for ideas on Pinterest, I came across the idea of doing a weekly theme instead of several intertwined throughout the month.
We started off with, Construction. Here is my Pinterest board with the ideas I used. For our story time in theme week we used books from the library. I used our library search feature and found books online, and then had them delivered to our local branch.
Here is the basic breakdown of what I plan for the week
March week 1 – Construction
TV show
I searched Hulu, amazon, and Netflix for ideas. We watched this a few times a week during snack time.
Handy Manny
• Big Construction Job
Books (from library)
•D is for Dump-truck by Michael Shoulders
•B is for Bulldozer by June Sobel
•Construction by Sally Sutton
ABC Mouse
I just used the search feature to see what they had to add.
- Book
- Color pages
Craft
Painting with nuts and bolts
Activities
- Building letters with stones outside with sticks and rocks
- Duplo set (I bought this on sale at target months ago and have been saving it for when we needed something new to play with, worked great for this theme)
- Hammer with golf tees
Sensory bin
- Beans
- Rice
- Toys from dollar store
Coloring
- Print outs from abc mouse
Some activities we did more than once during the week, such as, playing with our duplo set, sensory bin, and the hammering. I also took this time to add to his dress up corner and bought him a hard hat and construction vest. For his birthday last year he received a Melissa and Doug Tool belt, and this cute tool box. We used toys from those for our activities as well. I let him do his color pages while waiting for dinner and it worked really well.
